Srinagar, Nov 19 (KNO): Stepping into the past with every footfall, the Department of Archives, Archaeology, and Museums, J&K, launched its much-awaited ‘World Heritage Week’ celebrations on Tuesday at the SPS Museum in Srinagar. The event, blending education with exploration, brought the region’s rich and diverse cultural heritage to life. According to the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), among the highlights was a “Heritage Walk” through the Complex Old Secretariat Srinagar. Participants were invited to immerse themselves in the legacy of centuries-old structures and stories. “It feels like walking through a living history book,” said Amina Bhat, a student. “We don’t just read about heritage; we experience it today.” Similarly, the walk aimed to encourage locals, especially students, to step away from screens and reconnect with the roots of their region. Bilal Ahmed, a participant from a nearby college, said, “Today was the first time I truly saw the history of my city. It’s like a treasure chest, but you have to dig deeper to find it.” Additionally, it is worth mentioning that as part of the World Heritage Week-2024 celebrations, the department organised a special exhibition of rare archival documents at Shergarhi Complex Srinagar. A Heritage Walk from Shergarhi Complex to SPS Museum Srinagar was flagged off today at 10:30 AM by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir—(KNO)
